WELCOME TO THE 310 BLOOR STREET WEST IN TORONTO

The summer intern of VEMU, Vincent is back at school now,

but he left behind this nice surprise for us.

VEMU (Väliseesti Muuseum) / Eesti Õppetöö Keskus on Kanada eestlaste arhiive ja raamatukogusid koondav organisatsioon Toronto kesklinnas Tartu College'is. Arhiivis on hoiul eestlaste raamatu-, arhiivi-, foto-, heli-, filmi- ja kunstikogud. VEMU tegeleb hoogsalt ka väliseesti kultuuri edendamise ja propageeri-misega korraldades näitusi, seminare, loenguid, õpitubasid, filmiõhtuid, etendusi ja kontserte. Peame väga oluliseks kodu- ja väliseesti kultuurivahetust. VEMU kaugemaks eesmärgiks on ehitada muuseumile oma maja, mis annaks võimaluse püsiekspositsiooni ning rändnäituste väljapanekuks.

Igapäevaselt tegeleme VEMU kogude korrastamise, andmebaasistamise ja digiteerimisega. Sageli tuleb kastide põhjast ja raamatute vahelt välja põnevaid leide, mida tahaks jagada. Sealt tuligi mõte luua VEMU AJAVEEB, et huvitavad leiud ja ka VEMU tegemised jõuaks laiema lugejaskonnani.

VEMU (Museum of Estonians Abroad) / Estonian Studies Centre is situated in downtown Toronto at Tartu College and aims to collect and preserve the archives and libraries of Canadian Estonians. The archive has book, archival, photo, audio, video and art collections. VEMU also plays an important role in promoting Estonian culture abroad by organizing exhibitions, seminars, lectures, workshops, film nights, plays and concerts. VEMU's future plan is to build a museum, which would display permanent and travelling exhibitions.

On an everyday basis we are busy with sorting, databasing and digitizing VEMU's collections. Often we come across interesting materials in the bottom of boxes or in between books, which we would like to share. This is where we got the idea for a VEMU's blog (VEMU AJAVEEB), so that our interesting discoveries and events could be shared with a wider audience.
